Finding the right snowboard instructor basically boils down to your judgment. By asking questions and following a few rules you can make a more informed decision. Look around in your local newspapers or phone book for instructors in your area.
Can your snowboard instructor give you some of his customers that you can talk with?
A good way to go about this is ask your instructor if he has any past customers that you can speak with, if he does this will insure some experience. You can ask people how they found his or her training to be. I’m sure you will find some negative feedback along with the good, just take everything into account when talking to these folks.
How much will the instruction cost me?
A very important question and should be a huge factor in what snowboard instructor to choose. Just know what kind of knowledge your after. If one instructor is higher than another, this probably reflects his or her ability, service, and or experience. Therefore the higher price may not be worth it to you if your wanting to learn just basics. Just make sure you ask what all the rate includes. The snowboard instructor might charge you an hourly rate, but the facility might charge you more for rent on equipment or use of the facility itself. Also understand that getting trained on better slopes might cost you more money. Just make sure you take everything into consideration.
How well will you get along with your instructor?
Make sure you consider this, although it is sometimes hard to tell. Meeting them in person first is a great way to get to know their personality. Sometimes it is best not to become friends with the instructor, but keep a mutual respect and understanding of one another. That of course is entirely up to you.
The times the instructor is available.
If your instructor will only be available between the hours of 9-5 and this is when you will be working then the chances are that this instructor is not very well suited to you. Stop and discuss with an instructor when both of you are available and you be sure to have a better working relationship.
Whatever direction you take on choosing a snowboard instructor, just don’t stress over it and make it a fun experience. There are many instructors out there willing to give you their knowledge and personal help.
